Outlawz: building from scratch the visual identity of the Amapiano media, which is a hit in Europe

The challenge: to build a visual identity from scratch for a hyper-growing music medium, with several founders to convince
Outlawz is the digital media that documents and amplifies the Amapiano and Afrobeats scene in Europe. Exclusive videos from events, live DJ sets, Spotify playlists updated every week, articles, interviews, and now co-organized events across Europe. In less than a year of existence, Outlawz has reached 450,000 followers on TikTok, 20,000 on Instagram, and accumulated over 117 million views. Kabza De Small, Uncle Waffles, Vigro Deep, Dlala Thukzin - the biggest names on the scene trust them.

When they joined Design Elite by referral, they just passed the 100,000 subscriber mark. Their logo: a typeface made in Photoshop by themselves. Nothing else. Everything is to be built.

The particular context: Outlawz is founded by several people, each with their own vision of what the identity of the media should be. Finding a visual field that speaks to everyone, that is strong enough to unite internally and distinctive enough to impose itself externally - that was the central challenge at the start.

Our intervention: building everything - identity, templates, templates, prints, prints, motions, combinations - for a media that produces constantly
We worked on a dozen complete and distinct visual identities before validating one that corresponded to the vision of the entire team. A demanding process - but the result is there: a logo that is now recognizable everywhere, even when artists use or imitate Outlawz content.
Once the identity was established, our scope was extended to all media needs:
- Website design and brochures
- Decks and presentation materials for partnerships
- Prints for events: stickers, flags, posters
- Social media - continuous social media assets
- Motion design: animated logo and motions published on TikTok and Instagram
- Icons for the different categories of social networks
- Logos based on the main logo for each of the article concepts and editorial formats
- More than a dozen editable Canva templates, to make the team autonomous on a daily basis
- Merch T-shirt designs

The challenge on this project: coherence at scale. Outlawz is constantly publishing, on several formats, on several platforms. The templates and combinations that we have built allow them to produce quality content independently - without depending on us for each publication.

Outlawz now has 500,000 followers on TikTok and aims to reach one million by the end of 2026. Collaboration is still active.
What's most telling: the Outlawz logo is now recognizable throughout the community. When artists use media content or when other accounts imitate their visuals, the Outlawz watermark is immediately identifiable. We succeeded in building an identity that is strong, memorable, and that belongs to the scene.

What the team particularly appreciates: our ability to quickly understand the universe and needs, and to provide them with tools that make them autonomous rather than dependent on a provider with each new content. This is exactly what the templates and combinations were designed for.
A French media that is followed all over the world, whose design is produced by Design Elite. We are proud of it.
